On February 6 Oasis stormed into the University of Central Florida Area in Orlando. I was on a mission, not just to go to the concert, but to obtain a photo pass that would let me into the photo pit. I was carrying an Intercollegiate press card courtesy of the Triton, but that was all. I had no idea if what power this pass held.
Well, my mission was a stupendous success beyond any conception of reality. I patiently waited by the table where the photo passes were to arrive sometime that night. When the woman approached the table obviously holding something important, I stepped right up to her and flashed her my press card and politely asked if I could get a photo pass. She, obviously flustered, told me that I had to apply a month in advance to get clearance by the management. "That's how it always is." I was still determined to get what I came for. As she stared at my press card, I explained that I worked for my college newspaper in St. Petersburg and would only be publishing these photos there. Then she called me over to sign some forms saying that I would not distribute my photographs to anyone else and she gave me my media pass - success!
Then the other photographers and I were whisked down the elevator to the bottom level where we were brought out into the photo pit. If you are not familiar with where this is, it is the place between the first row and the stage; practically as close as you can get. I was so amazed that I even arrived at this place and I felt like I was on top of the world. All of the kids in the first row started talking to me and asking how I got the pass and got there. I explained my story and they all asked for copies of the Triton and/or copies of my pictures. One guy even wanted my media pass when I was done. I told him that it was going to be a very valuable souvenir and that he couldn't have it. I took done all their addresses and promised them that I would send them copies of the Triton. Then the concert began and the fun started.
Oasis came out on stage and everybody went wild. I was about a foot away from both Liam and Noel Gallagher. During the course of my picture taking, they even stuck their tongues out at me. I think that the other photographers were jealous that they liked me better. We were only allowed to take pictures for the first three songs and then we were quickly whisked right back out of the photo pit and it was over, but I wasn't coming down off of my high. I chatted some with the management and got a set list to put in my review and then thanked them and went back to my seats. Of course I still had my media pass which let me go anywhere in the stadium so I didn't have to sit back up in my nosebleed seats. I felt so special as the guards glanced at my pass and let me by.
Anyway, the concert was very excellent and Oasis put on a better than expected performance - no fights. The set list is as follows:
